My name is Stacy Hogan, founder of ThisPainWillPass.com. I created this site after looking online for information pertaining to "Bullycide - the act of killing oneself as a result of being bullied".
It was amazing how many sites there were trying to sell you book after book rather than offer easy to access information for teachers, parents, and most important - KIDS. The most useful information seemed the hardest to find.
Every week on the news there seems to be another death or suicide as a result of being bullied. After I learned of the term "Bullycide", it led to the creation of a simple web video for a song I'd written/recorded for my band "Lovers and Liars" called "Anthem For The Lonely" which dealt with the idea that we all get lonely .. we all go through pain, loss, ridicule, heartache.. and that one day you'll feel so different it'll be hard to remember ever feeling so bad. It started off as a relationship song but then took off into a different direction after the death of yet another teenager popped up as a headline on my news app.
This song isn't available anywhere - or even for sale. It can be found here and around the web to help raise awareness about the seriousness of the problem. What's more shocking to me is how little I knew of the magnitude of this problem, even though I read the news everyday. My involvement wouldn't stop with a song, so I built this website myself and out of my own pocket.
Depression and suicide at any age is nothing to take lightly. I've had three family members commit suicide. It devastates the ones left behind.
Communication is everything.
Knowing that it will get better is key.
That is easy to forget when it feels like the whole world is crashing in a
day.
Talk to your kids, siblings, students.. and make sure they know they can talk to you about anything.
Don't forget what it was like to ask for help when you were a kid. Use that wisdom to make it easier for them.
With love and hope,
- Stacy Hogan
